The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim offers a PhD position in Environmental Psychology at the Department of Psychology for a period of 3 years in the research group for “consumption, environment and traffic”.

The position is connected to research activity in the area of food waste. For this project the end consumer and his/her role with respect to food waste, the potential for behavioural change and promising intervention tools shall be analysed. Although taking a primarily psychological focus the project will be situated between behavioural science and environmental science conducted in the industrial ecology programme of NTNU. The position is connected to the PhD-program at the Faculty of Social Science and Technology Management and the Faculty will be your employer. The Department of Psychology is one of the largest departments at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and currently employs 90 employees. The Department is an international arena for research and education in Psychology covering a variety of disciplines such as Cognitive and Biological Psychology, Health and Organization Psychology, Personality, Developmental and Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Evolutionary Psychology, Environmental Psychology and Historical Psychology.

 

Qualifications

The requirement for the positions is a completed master’s degree/major/cand psychol in Psychology with good results, or education to equivalent level. Candidates with a master/major in related areas may apply if the research proposal is clearly related to the topic described and includes a strong focus on psychology.

Specific requirements are a profound theoretical background in decision-making models used in psychology or related social sciences, familiarity with environmental interventions, experience in complex quantitative data analyses (e.g., structural equation modeling), and experience in empirical data collection.

Fluency in English both written and spoken is mandatory. It will further be evaluated positive if the applicant has experience with environmental science methods of quantifying environmental impacts (e.g., input-output analysis, life-cycle analysis) and has experience with scientific writing. If the applicant does not speak Norwegian it will be expected that he or she is willing to attend a Norwegian course.

In the assessment of the candidates the following qualifications will be emphasized:

  • The research proposal’s originality, independence, quality and relevance.
  • Grades from the master’s degree/major/cand psychol
  • Research relevant experience such as publications and participation in research projects.
  • Personal skills will be emphasized, and we prefer candidates who have the ability to carry out flexibility and excellent cooperation skills.
  • Recommendations/references.

 

Payment- and working conditions

The PhD position is paid according to salary level 50 in the National Salary Scheme, gross NOK 34.691,70 pr. month, of which 2 % is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants. The employee is expected to accept possible changes in work tasks.

It is essential that the successful candidate is present and available at the Department of Psychology.
